Art in Tulum

Bananas Restaurant Exotic Art Gallery And Shop at Tulum

Aside from Animal rescue, Gillian's other passion is travel. She is a market trader at heart, in fact her first Saturday job as a child was in a gaudy jewelry stall aptly named “Sylvias Grotto”. She also ran an Antique shop in the US, but most interestingly in her early 20’s she sold carpets in the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul when her dancer career ended. She still visits Istanbul regularly since it’s part of her heart: the alley ways of the Grand Bazar are home for Gillian! Last November she was buzzing around the back streets of Jaipur, India, in search of semi precious stones and pashminas to bring to Nevis.

Bananas Boutique is a reflection of her tastes in the ethnic and unusual… and everything in it is curated personally by her on her many trips abroad. The boutique is housed in a cute west indian Chattel house and is a real life "Aladdin’s Cave” for all the guests coming by. Check out our Tulum best restaurant guide if you want to continue traveling to Mexico after your stop at Nevis - Gillian loves Mexican manufacture and she will be happy to give you advice for your next trip.

"Totally Bananas" boutique also features locally made jewelry, hot sauces, pottery, soaps and books published by local authors, not to mention the homemade Banana Rum that will make you fall in love with the flavors of this island!

The walls of the Restaurant are a constantly changing display featuring selected Caribbean Artists both from Nevis and from the neighboring Islands. All of the pieces are original, and occasionally also limited edition Giclees are exhibited! At Bananas Art Gallery we have styles and prices to suit all budgets and tastes, while WorldWide shipping is also available!

The boutique keeps the same hours as the restaurant, so round off your visit with a cocktail or light lunch and enjoy the gardens and the view.

The structure of Bananas restaurant was built in the old plantation style with shingled walls and wooden shutters. Bananas character and style is full of shabby chic touches, iron day beds, ornate chandeliers hanging down from rustic galvanized roofing and antique kilims on Nevis stone flooring.

Featuring International Comfort food with a good dash of Caribbean thrown in, Bananas menu is both eclectic and mouthwatering. If you’re feeling like a taste of something local, we have the largest selection of creative Caribbean dishes on the Island, only waiting to be discovered by you!

Bananas dining terrace overlooks the lush gardens with the Caribbean sea visible through the Palm trees. Come early for dinner and enjoy the sunset from our stunning new "firefly lounge'' with one of our signature Passion fruit martinis cocktails.

We also have a large selection of Old Aged Rums, including our own home made Banana Rum, plus the Cuban Cigars to go with them! Our Cute west Indian chattel house Gift Shop is chock full of interesting finds from around the globe… and our original Art on the walls is purely Caribbean to make you merge in the beautiful scenery of Nevis island.
